"The Portal" by Britt Warner + SADFAM Concert
"The Portal" is out today! + SADFAM Concert: Feb. 16th @ Solarc
On this day, we’re thrilled to be releasing Britt Warner’s new album, The Portal, a collection of improvised vocal pieces created during our January 2021 Song A Day session!
From visitation:
“Britt Warner is a horse training grunge whisperer who lives with a small dog in a chicken shack in Burbank. There are no chickens there and you will have to ask the dog about that. Her prodigious and wildly disparate output fluctuates from sounding like Kate Bush, who she claims not to have listened to, to Pauline Oliveros, who she definitely hasn't. In any case she is a person like no other and you will have to discover that through pure sound.”
From Calpurnia’s Mom:
“The Portal is a pilgrimage of the voice. Deep breaths and hollow consonants play percussion while Britt's gossamer singing overlays in loop pedal choir. Comforting, ethereal wisps in "Better Late Than Never" and "The Chosen" contrast the unsettled, grunge density of "Belong" and "Oh Darlin'."
The second half of the album lends itself best to contemplative listening. "Ask the Dust" and "When You Wake" are especially mesmerizing examples: stripped-down melodies shine across gentle soundscapes. From the enormous, ambiguous opening chords of "Blue Skies," the listener follows Britt's voice through the spontaneous and heartfelt, the beautiful and raw.”
A companion book to The Portal is included on PDF called "Animals In the Clouds: The Portal." Comprised of nightly writings, photos, and art made during the same month as the album, this bonus item is the first of its kind, exclusive to those who purchase the album.
